Steele Memorial Medical Center

Salmon, IDaho

Project:

The Steele Memorial Medical Center-Physicians’ Clinic (SMMC-PC) is an approximately 18,000 sqft medical office building located on the Steele Memorial Hospital campus, in downtown Salmon, ID.  The building was designed to interconnect with the existing 12,000 sqft physicians’ clinic, which has been converted to house specialty services. With 21 exam rooms, two procedure rooms, lab, three nurse stations, multiple doctor offices, and community education/conference center, gives this state of the art facility the support it needs to provide a multitude of health care services in this remote community.

The construction of the new facility required a fair amount of site demolition, including the hospital’s active helipad and maintenance building. The project scope included constructing a new helicopter landing pad adjacent to the existing hospital emergency room.  Multiple other administration buildings had to be demolished to accommodate its new location while meeting all FAA guidelines.  The new helipad location also required the Hospital’s emergency entrance to be reconstructed for new parking.  All emergency flights were routed to airport during the construction period.  Hours after the new helipad opened, the Life Flight successfully landed, bringing their first emergency patient for treatment.

The third phase of the project was constructing a new maintenance building for campus support.  Working with the neighboring property owner, SMMC was able to acquire the property necessary to build the steel structure with full site development, while all other portions of the project were proceeding.
